Implant Dentistry
Implant Dentistry in Portland, OregonDo you have any missing teeth? Any of us can lose a tooth at any age, whether from some type of accident, or from poor dental hygiene. Implant dentistry is growing in popularity for the young and old alike.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root which provides an anchor for an artificial tooth. Implants can be used to replace one single tooth or a whole mouthful of teeth, taking the place of dentures.
Implants are small cylinders made of titanium, which fuses well with bone (a process known as osseointegration).
The implant dentistry procedure
There are two visits, spaced apart by a couple of months. In the first visit, the implant is put in place. Some time must elapse then, to allow your jawbone to grow around the implant, integrating it into itself. This will make it a strong foundation for the artificial tooth.
In the second visit, the false tooth (porcelain crown) is placed on the implant.
The final result is a new and strongly supported tooth which matches its neighbors in color. It will look and feel like your natural teeth and unlike dentures, will not prevent you from enjoying all your favorite foods. You can bite into apples, munch on caramels, and enjoy corn on the cob, without the worry of your teeth coming out!
